Positions at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
As part of a multi-year hiring initiative, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is hiring hundreds of individuals with science and medical backgrounds to help meet the agency’s responsibilities to assure the safety and/or efficacy of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices, food, cosmetics and products that emit radiation. In fiscal year 2008 alone, the FDA is looking to fill more than 600 new positions and to backfill over 700 others to implement the FDA Amendments Act of 2007, the Food Protection Plan and the Import Safety Action Plan. Qualified candidates could be on the job in as little as three weeks.
The critical need occupations are medical officers, consumer safety officers, chemists, nurse consultants, biologists, microbiologists, health/regulatory/general health scientists, mathematical statisticians, epidemiologists, pharmacologists, pharmacists and veterinary medical officers. Many of these positions are located in the Washington metropolitan area, specifically Rockville, Silver Spring and College Park, MD, as well as across the country in the FDA’s five regions, 20 districts, more than 179 resident posts, and the newly created FDA offices overseas. MEDICAL OFFICER
The incumbent will serve as a Medical Officer assigned to perform various functions within one of the three NIAID extramural divisions: The Division of AIDS, The Division of Allergy Immunology and Transplantation or The Division of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. The incumbent will participate in the development, implementation, and oversight of biomedical research programs that are critical to support the mission of the assigned Divisions. Duties will be performed through active collaboration and interaction with NIH-funded investigators. This is a non-clinical position, however, NIAID Medical Officers may spend up to 1/2 day per week in clinical activities to ensure continued clinical expertise and competency.

DIRECTOR OF CLINICAL PROGRAMS AND EDUCATION
As our Director of Clinical Programs and Education you will be responsible for all clinically related education and training projects, products and programs as well as partnering with outside organizations as related to clinical practice. VNAA represents over 400 non-profit, community-based home health agencies across the country. VNAs provide homecare, hospice care, wellness services, care management services, mass immunizations and a wide range of other health services needed in their communities. VNAs rely heavily on Medicare, Medicaid and other payers for financing the care they provide and must respond to a wide range of quality assurance requirements.
DIRECTOR OF QUALITY INITIATIVES
As our Director of Quality Initiatives you will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive home health quality initiative to support the Visiting Nurse Associations of America (VNAA) mission. VNAA represents over 400 non-profit, community-based home health agencies across the country. As the Director of Quality Initiatives, you will:
- Conduct regular scan of the home health quality environment, particularly within the VNAA network.
- Research, develop and initiate evidence-based quality improvement strategies and programs addressing both process and outcomes measures related to services provided by VNAs.
- Work closely with VNAA’s Director of Clinical Programs and Education to develop and coordinate educational programs for VNAs to help them achieve established quality standards.
- Assist the Vice President of Communications and Development in securing funding, writing proposals, and managing quality-related grants.
- Provide evidence-based, expert advice to VNAs on all aspects of patient assessment, quality measurement, quality assurance and quality improvement.
- Represent VNAA at meetings and collaborate with relevant quality standards organizations such as AHRQ, JCAHO, CHAP, NQF, QIOs, and State Survey Agencies.
- Create and manage a steering committee consisting of representatives from a broad spectrum of quality, home health, and nursing organizations.
- Work with State Homecare Associations on quality issues related to VNAs within their states.
- Review, prepare and coordinate VNAA comments on quality- related initiatives proposed by other entities.
Qualifications
- BSN required, MSN preferred
- 5-10 years of home healthcare management and/or clinical staff development experience
- At least 5 years relevant experience in quality assurance or quality improvement activities, preferably in the homecare field
- Demonstrated senior-level experience in the development and management of a multifaceted program
- Strong writing and communication skills, including proposal writing

The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Department of Health Disparities Research, is accepting applications for several open-rank tenured/tenure-track faculty in any area of health disparities research.
Candidates must have a strong record or promise of scholarly achievement and extramural funding. We are particularly interested in individuals with expertise in population-based social, environmental, or geographic science;
anthropological/qualitative science; community-based participatory research; or implementation and dissemination science. However, applications from all areas of expertise are welcome. Qualifications include a doctoral
degree in sociology, epidemiology, public health, psychology, demography, anthropology, geography, communications, or related field.
