About Us

Proyecto Ciencia™ NIAID Hispanic Outreach Initiative is a national effort developed to promote innovative research about Hispanics and communicate new developments to the broader science community. Proyecto Ciencia™ promotes the dissemination of information on innovative research opportunities for Hispanic scientists and students at multiple career levels and fosters interest in science and research careers.

The project is operated by the National Alliance for Hispanic Health in collaboration with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and the National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NCMHD) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  Proyecto Ciencia™ [Project Science] has three major objectives:

  • Improve the reach of NIAID health and science information to Hispanic consumers, including developing new Hispanic community-based and media avenues for dissemination and use of current NIAID consumer materials on asthma and HIV/AIDS.
  • Foster interest in science and research careers by highlighting Hispanic role models and providing information to students and parents on available resources.
  • Support dissemination of information on NIAID opportunities to Hispanic scientists and students.

These objectives are being accomplished by developing a national web-based communication network for scientists and students engaged in health and sciences research, facilitating mentorship relationships, encouraging application of new scientists to NIH training programs, and providing information on scholarships and internship opportunities.

The Proyecto Ciencia™ web page (www.hispanichealth.org/ciencia) is a place to find and exchange information geared to Hispanic scientists and students in the area of health disparities research.  The web site provides the latest information in science news, disparity focused research grants, training opportunities, and access to a wealth of research information in your area of interest from the NIAID, NICMHD, and other institutes and centers at the NIH.

We hope you will find the Proyecto Ciencia™ to be a valuable professional resource and will invite your input and comments.
